Inclusive Recruitment Underrepresentation in the workforce Lesson 2a: The number of women in senior positions in the workforce

Just as there is under-representation of women in the Core-STEM pipeline, there is a low representation of women at senior and board level. The numbers are improving but there is much work left to be done.

On the bright side, the percentage of female directors at S&P 500 companies in 2022 has nearly doubled in ten years (30% up from 16% in 2012). Similarly there are more than ten countries in the world where women make up more than 33% of board directors – these include the UK, France, Norway and Sweden.

However, only 6% of Fortune 500 CEO positions are held by women, and the pay gap remains stubbornly high.
