Who are Heathrow Airport?
Heathrow is the UK’s international gateway and the largest airport in Europe – connecting to 239 destinations across 89 countries. The airport welcomes over 200,000 passengers on roughly 1,300 flights each day, and serves as Britain’s hub for trade, tourism and investment. Over 80,000 colleagues work at Heathrow – the airport directly employs about 10% of them, with the rest working for Team Heathrow partners including airlines, ground handlers and retailers.
What projects / schemes / initiatives to support women’s recruitment, retention and progression in STEM are Heathrow Airport involved in?
Heathrow promotes ED&I through many work streams (Altitude – Gender Equality, Proud – LGBTQ+, HAND – Disability, en-HaNCE – Culture and Ethnicity), and local groups such as our Women in Engineering and Baggage group. This group supports its members locally through monthly events and supports the wider community through “Giving Back Days” at local schools to promote STEM subjects. Heathrow also offers Apprenticeships and Graduate schemes for the development of the next generation of Engineers.
Our commitment to inclusion at Heathrow Airport and why we joined WISE.
“As someone who benefited from WISE’s support during my A-Level years through a weeklong residential course, I’m thrilled Heathrow has joined as members of WISE. I look forward to working with WISE to promote Engineering as a career choice to all, but especially to our future engineers and the opportunities available to them through our Apprenticeship and Graduate schemes”.
