WISE to pilot new leadership mentoring scheme

WISE-academic-roundtable

WISE has been given the green light to pilot a new Leadership Mentoring Scheme to start in first-quarter 2023.

Mentors will receive a training workshop and a resource pack to help them support aspiring leadership mentees. WISE will take learnings from the pilot and run subsequent quarterly workshops for mentors across the STEM sector.

To be accepted onto the scheme you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an employee of a WISE member organisation – check the membership list here.
  • You have demonstratable leadership experience (function/business unit leadership level and upwards).
  • You can attend the mentoring training session (or would be happy to watch back the recording).
  • You are willing to commit to a 6-month mentorship, meeting their mentor for one hour once a month.

Once you have signed up and completed the training workshop, you will be assigned a mentee from one of our leading academic members, all of whom are currently on an inclusive Leadership Development programme themselves. Example roles of our mentees include Lecturer, Assistant/Associate Professor, Teaching Fellow, and Research Associate. Mentees either identify as women and/or are from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Should we receive more applications from mentors than mentees, we will create a pool to pair with future interested parties.

In return for the training, we ask that you commit to one six-month relationship with a WISE mentee, either during the pilot or a subsequent scheme. The dates & times for these mentoring sessions are to be mutually agreed between mentors & mentees.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please register your interest below and we’ll be in touch with more details.

Alternatively please complete this form if you would like to become a mentee. Applications will open in 2023 – please note that mentees will also need to be working for a WISE member organisation.
