The WISE Young Professionals’ Board is excited to announce that we are seeking new advocates for equality to join us from 2020.
The WYPB is comprised of 12 successful young role models in their industries, informing the strategy of, and providing insight and feedback to the main WISE Campaign Board.
The WYPB also runs its own independent initiatives, such as writing blogs, conducting campaigns such as for International Women’s Day, running group sessions at the WISE Conference, collaborating with Harper Collins on educational materials for Primary Age students, and coordinating competitions and other initiatives to engage students in STEM, sourcing My Skills My Life role models, amongst other activities including representing WISE at other events. Additional projects we’re looking at for 2020 include setting up a reverse mentoring scheme for WISE member organisations and continuing the collaboration with Harper Collins.
The WYPB is a great opportunity for rising stars in STEM to gain valuable Board experience, and for companies to demonstrate their commitment to diversity and inclusion by supporting a WYPB member through their term. For 2020, we’re looking for Five new additions to replace our outgoing members, and we’re pleased to announce that the WYPB is open to applications from applicants of any gender, as we believe that gender parity benefits everyone, and is best driven by a diverse and invested group.
Please note, that in order to ensure diversity of composition across STEM industries, we do not have more than one WYPB member from a given company at the same time, so it is unlikely that in 2020 we would recruit another member from GSK, the BBC, Cisco, BMT, Collins Aerospace, Rolls Royce or Shell, as these companies will already be represented on the Board in 2020. The time commitment we ask from sponsoring companies is typically 10 working days a year, including four in-person Board meetings, and financial commitment from companies in supporting the WYPB with travel and accommodation to attend the same.
Applications are open to any employee of a WISE member organisation under the age of 30.
Applications are open until midnight on 15 November 2019, and shortlisted applicants will be informed in the w/c 25 November.
Remote interviews will be held via Zoom between 2-6 December 2019.
