Fellowships | The Chief Scientific Officer’s WISE Fellowship for NHS England

The Chief Scientific Officer’s WISE Fellowship is our flagship Fellowship. It offers a unique opportunity within the NHS and beyond for mid-career female healthcare scientists to gain invaluable leadership experience.

The Fellowship has been running since 2016 and has been extremely beneficial to the Fellows themselves, as well as their trusts and departments.

“For me it has changed everything. It made me unstuck. I have been promoted two bands during the course of the fellowship when I had failed to be promoted in 13 years before this. It has given tools and the confidence to be pro-active and take hold of what I want from my career.” – Michelle Foster, 2017-2018 Fellow.

“The mentoring programme has been extremely beneficial. The mentors have given dedicated time and have been great at helping me explore things I am thinking about in my career and my role. Having the mentors has been amazing and they have both helped me to explore future career options and current issues.” – Zoe Clarke, 2017-2018 Fellow.

The Fellowship consists of a series of key structured events and a number of opportunities to extend networks, influence internally and inspire externally.

These include:

  • Joining on the widely acclaimed WISE Career Development Programme, with follow-up professional coaching sessions to support you achieve your career goals.
  • Mentoring by senior leaders from the fields of healthcare, academia and industry.
  • Speaking and ambassadorial opportunities via both the WISE and The Office of the Chief Scientific Officer’s networks, as well as attendance at the WISE Conference and National Chief Scientific Officer’s Conference.
  • Access to WISE’s brand new digital My Skills My Life training.
