Dr Sheila Kanani, Education, outreach and diversity officer, RAS
Dr Sheila Kanani is the education, outreach and diversity officer at the RAS, a published author and an astronomy teacher. She is a coke-float drinking planetary physicist, jazz saxophone playing science presenter and hockey-loving space comedian with a research background from UK universities.
I am a ‘jill of all trades, master of none’! This means I can put my hand to anything with the right advice! I can speak confidently on many topics from astronomy and space to diversity and inclusion, a secondary level science teacher, a published author, a scientist, a mother. I’m happy working with all types of people, from delivering science sessions to 3-year-olds in a nursery to sitting on a high-level board meeting with senior leaders in the space industry, so can offer many different facets to the role. I have a widespread of contacts in many industries and am able to connect people successfully across many networks.
