Angela Mcfarlane

Vice President, Strategic Planning Northern Europe, IQVIA

I am Vice President for Strategic Planning Northern Europe, IQVIA, a global human data sciences company. In 2018, I was nominated by Pharmaceutical Marketing Europe as one of the ’30 Most influential Women in UK Healthcare.’ I am a co-founder of IQVIA’s Women Inspired Network and leader on the Board around gender pay gap and diversity. I work with Government, NHS, Pharmaceutical and Patient Organisations on initiatives that will improve NHS patient access to medicines, clinical trials, RWE studies and benefit from AIML. I Chair our IQVIA Brexit Task Force, I lead external engagement with Government & Life Sciences leaders to ensure that post BREXIT our life sciences sector places the UK at the forefront of global healthcare innovation. As a life-science entrepreneur at heart, I founded and sold my own Medicines Market Access business in 2013. Prior to this I led the turn-around of a failing VCfunded managed care hospital within 18m transforming i; into a pioneering outcomes-based specialist provider for NHS patients in the NW of England. Proving the teachers wrong for writing me off at 13 YO as ever having a career in science, I broke into the Life Science sector in 1982, joining pharma giant Merck Sharp & Dohme.

I was the only non-science female Graduate in the 34 strong MSD Class of 82. Competing with predominantly male colleagues in MSD and subsequently BMS, all of whom had Science PhDs, I broke many glass ceilings along the way to achieve Director level roles, whilst also raising a family of 3 girls. By 2023 the UK clinical science environment will be transformed by data scienceensuring UK citizens realise the health benefits of the unique health data ecosystem that their data has generated. Contributing to this and the success of UK PLC life sciences will be my world.
