2019 WISE One to Watch Award Finalist
Oishi Deb, Software Engineer, Rolls-Royce PLC
Oishi is working at Rolls-Royce in the Civil Aerospace Control Systems department. Oishi’s current role is in Analytics. Oishi has worked in Software Verification in Hardware Software Integration Test and in Software Development of safety-critical software for aircraft’s engine controls system.
Oishi is named as one of the three ‘Sky Women in Tech Scholars 2018’ across the UK. Oishi’s project idea on Machine Learning was highly appreciated by the senior tech experts at Sky. Oishi won a grant of £25,000 from Sky to work on this project.
Another innovative idea of real-time manufacturing and operational data access to create predictive smart engines was shortlisted for the UK Telegraph’s STEM award 2017 in the power-system category, which was sponsored by Rolls-Royce.
Oishi graduated in 2017 with BEng Software and Electronics Engineering (SEE) with Industry degree from the University of Leicester. Oishi became the President and Vice-Chancellor Student of the Year 2017 for performing at an exceptional level across a number of activities and supporting the development of her peers and colleagues. She received the BCS prize 2017 for the best student graduating from the Software and Electronics Engineering course.
Oishi is a passionate STEM-Ambassador and her volunteering activities include judging UK Space Design regional competition, speaking at schools, volunteering at Maker’s-Fair & Big-Bang fair among others. She is a professional mentor for the University of Leicester students and helping them with networking, interview tips, CV and application process advice for work-experiences and internships in STEM. Oishi has received recognition from Rolls-Royce twice for her STEM outreach work.
