WISE deliver a range of projects, supporting and engaging our members focused around our outreach tool – My Skills My Life. Here is a selection of our current and future projects…
WISE are delighted to be a founding partner of The STEM Accord – alongside the ERA Foundation, STEM Learning, the Design and Technology Association and the Smallpeice Trust. The partnership has been founded to provide co-ordinated actions to inspire more young people, and particularly girls, to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
WISE are excited to be part of a brand-new research project investigating how to engage more girls in computing. We are partnering with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the Behavioural Insights Team, STEM Learning, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, alongside Apps for Good, to work on ‘Gender Balance in Computing’. This project is due to begin early next year.
The UK is the only country in the world aiming for net zero emissions by 2050. We know that girls care passionately about the environment. Results from the Girls’ Attitudes survey, conducted by Girlguiding in 2019, show that 88% of girls aged 7-21 felt it was urgent that we all do more to protect the environment. This is why WISE’s My Skills My Life will have a dedicated environmental version for 2020.
WISE have been working alongside Harper Collins Big Cat as they have produced a number of exciting books for Key Stage Two pupils. WISE have helped to provide case studies from real pilots, doctors, engineers, scientists, astronauts and palaeontologists.
The My Skills My Life: Property pack has been developed by WISE, in partnership with Gateshead College, Northumbria University and Derby College. In this Property resource, you can find women working as surveyors, managers, lawyers, engineers and architects for all sorts of different organisations – large and small. It is a real eye-opener for girls and their families to the sheer variety of opportunities available to them within the Property sector.
WISE have created a brand new My Skills My Life pack for the Maritime industry. In this Maritime & Me resource, you can find women working as Civil Project Engineers, Marine Officers and Engineers, Oceanographers and Deck Officers for all sorts of different organisations – large and small. It is a real eye-opener for girls and their families to the sheer variety of opportunities available to them.
