Improving gender balance a business imperative
Improving gender balance is a challenge, and a business imperative, across the entire STEM industry. It is not a problem just for individual companies. Getting it right – sustaining the flow and stock of women and creating a more diverse pool at senior level – brings benefits to the whole industry.
What you should do
- Recognise that different companies are at different points in their journeys. Some have been tackling the problem for years and are further along the path than others. But no company will claim to have cracked the problem in its entirety. For all, it is work in progress.
- Share your success stories and lessons learnt with other organisations and listen to the experience of others. Benefit from networking. WISE can help to facilitate this.
- Think in terms of collaboration rather than competition. We all – businesses, suppliers, employees, wider communities, policy-makers, regulators, individual men and women – have a role to play in making change happen.
