Volunteer Opportunity: Outreach Support Volunteer

Supervised by: WISE Development Officer

Organisation and volunteering outline
WISE is a not for profit, community interest company whose purpose is gender balance in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM); throughout education, work and business in the UK. WISE’s vision is:

  • To be the partner of choice for organisations, businesses and educational establishments who want to make real, sustainable improvement to gender balance in STEM. We understand the issues and have practical programmes and tools which make a national, sustainable impact at all stages from education through entry level jobs up to the boardroom.
  • To create an environment where there is opportunity, encouragement and support for women and girls from different backgrounds, communities and regions to find their first and their next steps in STEM, relevant to their circumstances, their talents and their interests.

To meet WISE’s commitment to engage more girls to consider studies and careers in STEM – and reach 200,000 girls in the next 4 years; WISE has created an interactive resource called My Skills My Life to help girls find rewarding careers in STEM. My Skills My Life is also online training platform, which teaches ambassadors how to take the My Skills My Life programme into schools and community groups.

WISE is looking for a volunteer to help us promote, update and coordinate aspects of the My Skills My Life programme.

The volunteer role would include:

  • Creating imagery/posts around My Skills My Life to use as promotional tools
  • Updating training resources
  • Some admin tasks such as coordinating role model profiles and contacts

Time Commitment: Ongoing commitment of 3-4 hours a week

Skills required: You don’t have to be a professional content creator – just organised, pro-active and able to use PowerPoint and Excel. Previous experience in working on outreach programmes would be beneficial. We will provide an induction and necessary training.

Equipment: Volunteers must be able to provide their own equipment and internet connection
Location: Home-based
Volunteers need to ensure they have a reasonable space in which to work with adequate security and privacy, with an internet connection capable of supporting work systems.

Expenses: WISE does not expect there to be expenses which would require reimbursing as part of this project
