35 WISE members take the Crossrail tour of Farringdon station
6 December 2016
35 women from WISE member organisations Thales, Shell, Kier, WSP, Tony Gee & Partners, UCL, QMUL, NPL, Airbus and Network Rail had the privilege to go on a Crossrail tour of Farringdon station. The tour, which took place on 01 December 2016, was jointly organised by WISE and WISE member Bechtel.
The women, mostly made up from STEM professionals, donned high viz jackets and hard hats to take the Crossrail tour and attend the 3 career workshops that were set up.
Project Manager, Linda Miller was on hand to answer questions participants about the Farringdon build, fielding questions on the station and the impact it will have on the local community. Linda also gave us a fascinating insight in to her career to date and the role of resilience in both our personal and professional lives in forging who we become.
“It was truly a unique experience, the engineers who gave us the tour were brilliant too, we got to learn a lot about what crossrail are doing beside providing a much needed new line connecting reading to Essex. It was a one of a kind experience and I feel lucky to have got this opportunity, thank you again for organising this.”
The three career workshops were:
- Confidence - led by Magdalena Strzeminska, Mechanical & Public Health (MPH) Field Engineer at Farringdon Station, Bechtel
- Resilience - Linda Miller, Farringdon Project Manager, Bechtel
- Authentic - Leadership by Laura Brown England, Senior Communications & CSR Manager, Ferrovial
Due to the positive feedback received, we hope to arrange more WISE Big Tours in the future.
