My Skills My Life Resource Packs

My Skills My Life: Property has been developed by WISE, in partnership with Gateshead College, Northumbria University and Derby College.

Property

BRIDGE (Building Routes Into Degrees with Greater Equality) is a joint project that was launched in 2017 led by Gateshead College and in partnership with Northumbria University and Derby College. This project has sought to investigate the comparatively low levels of participation by women, BAME and those from lower socio-economic groups in construction and built environment degree programmes and to test out approaches and interventions aimed at improving the diversity of those studying and working in these related subjects and professional roles.

As part of the BRIDGE Project, Northumbria University have worked with a number of contacts who collectively show that there are so many amazing women in the property sector in a range of job roles. The BRIDGE Project funded the production of a ‘Property’ resource as part of the My Skills My Life platform as this a fantastic way of showing girls all the opportunities available in the property sector.

In this Property resource, you can find women working as surveyors, managers, lawyers, engineers and architects for all sorts of different organisations – large and small. It is a real eye-opener for girls and their families to the sheer variety of opportunities available to them within the Property sector.

Maritime and Me

Working alongside the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers(ICS), Maritime UK have launched a new ‘Maritime and Me’ campaign, aiming to profile women and encourage girls and young women to join the sector. Maritime and Me features a range of case studies of women working in different parts of the sector, in both sea and shore-based roles, as well as a suite of resources aimed at audiences both inside and outside the sector. The campaign sits together with other Maritime UK initiatives, such as the Women in Maritime programme, and the wider Maritime Careers campaign.

The Department for Transport is funding the campaign, which has been created in direct response to the recommendation set out in the Maritime 2050 strategy.

As part of this, WISE have created a brand new My Skills My Life pack for the Maritime industry. In this Maritime & Me resource, you can find women working as Civil Project Engineers, Marine Officers and Engineers, Oceanographers and Deck Officers for all sorts of different organisations – large and small. It is a real eye-opener for girls and their families to the sheer variety of opportunities available to them.

You can download the role model pack here.
