Lancaster Engineering Department offers IChemE, IMechE and IET accredited undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in chemical, electronic & electrical, mechanical, mechatronic and nuclear engineering. We have a strong interdisciplinary research focus and we work collaboratively with national and international industry towards finding engineering solutions to the global challenges affecting energy supply, healthcare, communications and infrastructure.
Our engineering community comprises a diverse staff and student body who are enthusiastic advocates of our research and our research-led teaching ethos.
Lancaster Engineering Department encourages and supports women in STEM in a variety of ways. We have an active local schools’ outreach programme and we use targeted recruitment and marketing to prospective applicants to showcase diversity in engineering. Our student/STEM ambassadors, as role models, are an important facet of our outreach, and we support them in that role through training.
We support our staff at all stages of their careers. On joining the department, academic staff become a member of a Research Group, made up of staff working in similar/related fields. Group Leads take an active role in developing academic staff within their group, supporting them to achieve their full potential in terms of teaching and research and in identifying training and development needs and opportunities. Staff receive peer/group/departmental support with development of their research plans, in research grant proposal writing, in review of published output preparation and submission, in networking and collaboration and in attaining professional membership of the Higher Education Academy.
