Who are TRL Limited?
With over 85 years of legacy shaping and defining many of the features we take for granted in today's transport systems - TRL continues to lead the pack in innovating sustainable, safe and affordable solutions for the future. Having no shareholders or private equity investors - we look to attract and develop smart "free thinking" individuals from all walks of life who are keen to challenge convention and define new standards for tomorrows ever evolving intermodal world. By supporting organisations like WISE that promote diversity and inclusion we hope to encourage creative individuals looking to realise the opportunity of becoming part of an organisation where they can see the impact of their work in everyday situations.
What projects / schemes / initiatives to support women's recruitment, retention and progression in STEM are TRL Limited involved in?
As a research organisation we recognise the benefit of having a broad spectrum of views and perceptions from within our teams of scientists and engineers. Some of these may views may be influenced by background and upbringing, some by culture, and others by gender.
- During 2015 1/3rd of all recruits into our operational divisions were female and we continually strive to bring this further into balance. Joining WISE is one of the measures through which we hope to promote balance across the genders.
- One of our most senior Research Directors is female as is the Chair of our Employee Council and 1/3rd of all our Group Managers.
- All of our staff enjoy flexible working practices and we fully support women following maternity leave through a flexible and tiered return to work programme.
In recognition of our commitment to all of our staff TRL has been awarded the Investors in People Silver Standard.
Why did TRL Limited join WISE?
“Science and engineering are challenging disciplines but they transform societies. (Just consider their impact on my field - Transport.) By supporting WISE we hope to encourage young people of all backgrounds to consider a career in technical R&D by offering an insight into the excitement and opportunities that are possible.“
