Junior Group Leader positions

Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2)

ICN2 (www.icn2.cat) is an internationally-renowned research centre devoted to studying the behaviour of matter at the nanoscale. The Institute promotes collaboration among scientists from diverse backgrounds (physics, chemistry, biology, engineering) to develop basic and applied research, while also seeking out new ways to interact with local and global industry.

It was accredited in 2014 as a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence and is a founding member of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST, www.bist.eu), which the Nature Index ranks among the top 25 research institutions in Europe and the top 100 globally.

We are offering the opportunity for young researchers to join the ICN2 as Junior Group Leaders (JGL) to develop an independent line of research. These are up to three non-tenure track positions with a duration limited to five years.

We are looking for applications from highly-talented, innovative young scientists. Candidates should demonstrate an excellent scientific record in nanoscience and nanotechnology, preferably in relation to the four core areas (Energy, ICT, Health, and Environment) being pursued at ICN2 within the Severo Ochoa programme.

Candidates are expected either to hold or, having submitted a strong proposal, be successfully awarded an ERC Grant or similar. International mobility experience is compulsory.

ICN2 strives for a representative gender balance and equal opportunities at all levels of staff. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for these positions.

Summary of conditions

Besides a competitive start-up package, the selected candidates will have preferential access to state-of-the-art facilities at the ICN2, as well as suitable laboratory space.

Junior Group Leaders will be appointed for an initial five-year period. In exceptional cases, subject to approval by the ICN2 Scientific Advisory Board, it may be possible to extend the duration of the position.

Application Procedure

All applications must be made via the ICN2 website here and include a motivation letter, a full CV outlining previous achievements, and a research plan.

Applications will be continuously reviewed. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview by the Recruitment Committee.
