As part of a £10 million investment and expansion in our laboratories and Agritech testing facilities we seek a Professor of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, with particular interests in plant phenomics, applied informatics and soil science. Our new facilities span state of the art equipment and test rigs appropriate for engineers with interests in photonics, robotics, mechanics, and applied engineering applied to plant science. We will therefore consider individuals to complement our existing expertise in precision agriculture, soil science, applied informatics, and plant science. You will contribute to the leadership and management of existing research, and you will initiate and conduct high impact, internationally excellent research driven by your own interests. The successful candidate may also be considered for a role as Head of the Cranfield Soil and Agrifood Institute.

You will have a PhD and international profile in engineering with a focus and an interest in agricultural sensors. You will have a strong record of winning research grants, leading research projects and working in multidisciplinary collaborations. You will have a vision for how your research can capitalise on the two new AgriTech Centres of Innovation (AgriEPI and CHAP). These centres include novel internationally significant phenomic facilities under construction at Cranfield for research allied to plant–soil-water interactions, agri-informatics and precision agriculture as part of a wider £38M investment from the UK Government.

You will be expected to ensure the successful delivery of existing projects and to attract funding, research staff and students to expand and diversify Cranfield’s environment and agrifood capability. You will design and deliver postgraduate-level teaching as part of taught MSc programmes and short courses. Ideally you will have experience in both an industrial and academic setting.

For an informal discussion regarding this position, please contact Professor Leon Terry, E: l.a.terry@cranfield.ac.uk or T: +44 (0)7500 766490.

Closing date for receipt of applications: 30 January 2017
