Systems Engineer, Halliburton, Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire
I am currently a Systems Engineer at Halliburton in Tewkesbury, where I have been since September 2013. My role includes providing project support for the development for new measurement tools for drilling applications. Previous to my role at Halliburton I was working towards an Engineering Doctorate degree, in the subject area of applying statistics to data generated from pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, and spent the majority of my time based at the industrial sponsor, AstraZeneca.
I am a STEM ambassador, through which I have run a number of activities to promote STEM subjects in schools. I believe that increasing the number of women working in STEM needs to start at the school level, by encouraging more girls to take an interest in STEM subjects and pursue them through to A levels and University. I feel that we need to develop the female talent pool in the UK to strengthen our STEM workforce.
At Halliburton I am the secretary on the Talent Advisory Council, which aims to promote diversity by helping the business to recruit and retain more women. This role involves working with female employees across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa to share ideas of how to promote Halliburton as an employer and to encourage more women to consider careers in engineering.
I feel that I can contribute to the WISE Young Women’s Board having experience of the oil & gas and pharmaceutical industries. Through Talent Advisory Council I can gain insight into the views of women across a range of jobs in the oil and gas sector and across geographical locations.
