HRH The Princess Royal

HRH The Princess Royal has been a Patron of WISE since 2000.

The second child and only daughter of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, Her Royal Highness was born at Clarence House, London, on 15 August 1950, when her mother was Princess Elizabeth, heir presumptive to the throne. She was baptised Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise at Buckingham Palace on 21 October 1950.

She received the title Princess Royal from The Queen in June 1987; she was previously known as Princess Anne. Her Royal Highness is the seventh holder of the title.

The organisation’s Royal Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, unveiled a commemorative plaque and addressed the guests, who included representatives from major firms like Balfour Beatty, BAM Nuttall, Jacobs Engineering, Mott Macdonald, Rolls-Royce plc and Sky as well as representatives from the Universities, the new University Technical College, Leeds City Council Leader Judith Blake and former Apprentice Star Claire Young.

The WISE Awards 2015 were attended by key women leaders in STEM and presented by WISE’s patron, HRH The Princess Royal. This year’s WISE Awards, held on November 12 at a gala dinner in central London, coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Sex Discrimination Act being passed in the UK. At the event, WISE called upon the UK Government to intensify its efforts to increase diversity in STEM fields and raise the percentage of women in the STEM workforce from 14 per cent to 30 per cent by 2020.

A ground-breaking approach for young women who want to create Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) based companies launched yesterday. Run by the award-winning social enterprise, Stemettes the ‘Outbox Incubator’ program will give teenage girls the funding and support to launch their own science or tech-based businesses. The program is supported by HRH The Princess Royal, the Salesforce Foundation and WISE.
