What is the Esprit Physician R&D Leadership Programme?
The Esprit Programme is GlaxoSmithKline’s leading global talent development programme for MBBS or MD qualified physicians which builds a pipeline of diverse leaders, with the right capabilities and behaviours to drive GSK’s future strategic challenges. You’ll bring with you a wealth of medical knowledge and will recognize that there’s still plenty for you to learn and experience in order to become an extraordinary leader.
The Esprit Physician Leadership programmes overall goal is to support, stretch, develop and deliver leaders of the future. You will build your breadth of experience and leadership capabilities through accelerated development rotations which are outlined as follows:
How does the Esprit Physician R&D Leadership programme work?
You will spend 3 years on a fast track development programme, working your way towards a potential Senior research & Development leadership role.
Beginning in your home country, you will have 3 rotations, which may include international experience (not mandatory).
Through challenging rotations, you will gain in-depth drug discovery and development knowledge across a range of disciplines, including discovery research to drug safety, medical, regulatory, commercialisation and business development.
Throughout the Esprit Physician programme, you will cultivate a broad global business perspective, and nurture your existing physician experience and knowledge.
Every step of the way we’ll provide you with intensive development, training and support to help you to achieve your greatest potential.
Whatever it is you’re doing, and wherever you are based, you’ll be contributing to our mission to improve the quality of human life, by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer – all while fostering strong foundations for a successful career.
Is Esprit for you?
Within this programme you are expected to lead both by example in the creation and deployment of new data-driven solutions. Are you a thought leader, with the ability to challenge the status quo on how data is currently used within GSK. You will drive the business towards the vision of pro-active, predict first decision making.
As a MBBS or MD qualified physician with experience in a clinical setting (formal postgraduate qualification such a PhD preferred), you will have proven knowledge or experience analysing, integrating or interpreting large/complex data (e.g. clinical, genomic, transcriptomic). Proven direct experience in data analytics is preferred.
You will have demonstrated excellent communication skills and a flexible mindset to forge your career in a global matrix organisation. A key focus will be to further enrich your impact through leadership, innovation and decision making capabilities.
The Esprit physician Leadership programme is truly unique in the breadth of roles and experiences available and covers every physician touch-point in the journey of a disease target to patients. Therefore, there are many entry points, so you could have experience in academia in disease research/clinical pharmacology and this could include investigator led clinical trials. Those with a pharma background could join with experiences ranging from early phase Research & Development through clinical development and at the medical/commercial interface. Those from an academic structure would also have the opportunity to continue in the research sphere.
