Basic qualifications:

• PhD or equivalent/relevant experience
• Experience of leading others, setting clear direction and developing individuals
• A highly capable scientist with a track record that demonstrates proficiency in a wide range of immunology, molecular and cell biology techniques
• Experience leading projects and programmes – setting and delivering key milestones
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently. Well organised and able to prioritise work supporting multiple programs
• Experience of working collaboratively with teams through a matrix environment
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to negotiate, influence and build relationships at all levels

Preferred qualifications:
• Evidence showing an ability to scrutinise science, e.g. due diligence
• Strong Immunology and/or oncology and/or T-cell therapy experience
• Experience working on cell or gene therapies
• Experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sector highly desirable

We are currently seeking a dynamic and self-motivated senior investigator to join an exceptionally talented team within GSK's pioneering Cell and Gene Therapy department. This opportunity will see you becoming immersed in the science and therapy area itself. You will have exposure to the whole drug discovery process and be part of the development of some game changing assets within GSK's Cell and Gene Therapy portfolio that will change our patient's lives.

The ideal candidate will have a very strong track record of leadership, scientific delivery and achievement and will convey a passion for what they do. The successful candidate will display a drive to excel and an ability to bring others on a journey with them. As such, the candidate will become a key leader in a growing and dynamic Discovery group within the Oncology Cell Therapy Unit within Oncology R&D.

With an extensive record of scientific achievement, you will use your experience to lead, coach and mentor a sub-team of molecular and cell biologists, supporting day to day technical challenges and providing your team with the individual career development that they require. You will also be involved in early discovery programmes by helping teams to generate critical paths and achieve their milestones. For this, you will be required to help others to develop strategy, or even undertake this yourself, including designing and developing biology work-packages to address key scientific challenges. Furthermore, you will be required to use your understanding and knowledge of oncology, immunology and general science to help teams scrutinise and evaluate business opportunities. You should also be open to taking on challenges and opportunities outside of your core role detailed above.

You must be able to deliver your objectives in a collaborative environment, demonstrating that you can receive and provide clear direction as part of a team. You will be expected to develop credibility with colleagues across GSK R&D, evaluate and plan your objectives carefully and deliver to agreed timelines.

The candidate must be a creative, innovative self-starter, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in team and matrix environments.
