My HR policy role gave me the opportunity to collaborate with members of the network to develop a toolkit for employees and managers on how the company would support those experiencing pregnancy and baby loss\, a topic close to my heart. \n\n\n\n“The network was established just over 10 years ago\, and since then we’ve gone from strength to strength. As well as organising regular webinars on a wide range of subjects – from children’s mental health and supporting teens during exam periods\, to panel events for single parents and celebrating the role of Dad’s in the 21st century – our Buddy Scheme\, which matches newer parents or those going on/ returning from family leave with someone who has navigated those challenges\, has been a huge success and something we’re really proud of. \n\n\n\n“The network was initially established when one of our employees felt hugely overwhelmed upon her return to work following maternity leave. Realising that she couldn’t be the only person who felt like that after a year away from work\, she shared her story\, which others naturally resonated with and subsequently felt able to talk about their own experiences. For me\, that is the real impact of ERG’s; empowering people to speak up about topics that historically might have been “off limits”\, sharing their stories and being able to connect with others who can say “I see you. I understand.” \n\n\n\n“Raising awareness of those topics with others who haven’t had the same lived experience\, ultimately helps educate everyone and makes for a more understanding\, inclusive workplace.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeter PayneDriving digitisation within the Piling Industry and the Accessibility Network Lead at Skanska UK \n\n\n\nPeter has worked in Civil Engineering for 36 years delivering quality and professional solutions to the industry\, with 10 years plus of digital engineering and over 20 years’ experience in foundation testing instrumentation. \n\n\n\nPeter has led Skanska’s Ability Network for 5 years. He will talk about the range and structure of ERGs at Skanska and how aligning inclusion with the company’s health and safety pillar has helped the business to embed the ERG’s priorities into the heart of the organisation’s strategic and cultural development\, ensuring senior leadership support. He will also discuss how connecting different ERGs can empower intersectional learning increasing organisational impact though enabling wider representation and joined-up solutions. \n\n\n\nRegister to attend >
