Research Associate (Compound Semiconductor Photovoltaics)
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Research Associate to the Condensed Matter and Photonics research group at Cardiff University. Applicants should have a PhD in Compound Semiconductor Physics or a related discipline, with experience in Compound Semiconductor Research, and a keen interest in developing an academic or industrial career in Compound Semiconductor Physics. Applicants should have a proven track record of successful research output, for example, conference presentations / publications.
The role holder will perform a range of complex tasks essential to progress our research into Compound Semiconductor Photovoltaics, and will be expected to both lead and support work on multiple research projects as part of the team. The roles will connect to the EPSRC Future Compound Semiconductor Manufacturing Hub, the Institute of Compound Semiconductors, and the South Wales Compound Semiconductor Cluster, and are required at an exciting time for Compound Semiconductor Research, with potential for wide and far reaching impact. These posts represent an excellent career opportunity for the correct applicants.
The role will involve techniques such as Compound Semiconductor fabrication and characterisation. Training will be given where necessary, however, experience of the key techniques involved in Compound Semiconductor Research will be required. Cleanroom experience will be an advantage. Candidates should have excellent team working, communication, written and presentation skills, with a willingness to learn and adapt to a fast paced research environment. Previous experience of working with industry, or knowledge of the industrial sector will be an advantage.
A flexible approach to working is required due to the nature of research. This is a full-time position of 35 hours per week, is available immediately, and is fixed-term for 2 years.
