Research Associate in Distributed Energy Management in Buildings for Smart Grid (2 posts)

We are looking for two enthusiastic and self-motivated researchers with a postgraduate qualification to join an established team at BRE Trust Centre for Sustainable Engineering to work on demand-response enabled smart buildings and the integration of their flexibility with the smart grid. The posts are part of two European Commission funded Horizon 2020 projects, TABEDE (TowArds Building rEady for Demand rEsponse) and DRiVE (Demand Response Integration tEchnologies: Unlocking the demand response potential in the distribution grid). Both post holders are expected to work collaboratively with national and international partners.

The successful candidate should have: (a) an MSc/PhD (or near completion / submission of PhD) either in Computer Science, Electrical/Power Engineering, Energy Management or related areas, or relevant industrial experience, (b) a good background in Computational Intelligence (e.g. Multi-Agent Systems, Neurocomputing) and its application in Model Predictive Control (MPC) for building energy management, and (c) a good understanding of the issues related to the thermal and electrical flexibilities in buildings and their integration with smart grid.

It is expected that the successful candidate will build upon his/ her reputation by publishing papers in leading journals in the field and attending top conferences, while taking an active role in the collaborative research and development of distributed energy management systems and tools.

These posts are full time and fixed term until 31 October 2020.

Salary: £32,548 - £38,833 per annum (Grade 6)
