Research Associate in Isotope Geochemistry
The School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at Cardiff University is a dynamic and successful multi-disciplinary centre devoted to research in the disciplines of Earth and Ocean Sciences.
Applications are invited for a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) funded Research Associate position, forming part of the NERC Standard Grant NIIICE - ‘Novel Isotopic Insights Into Continent Evolution’.
Working with Dr Marc-Alban Millet at Cardiff University, the role of the Research Associate (RA) is to use the stable isotope composition of heavy elements such as titanium to investigate the petrogenesis of Archean continental crust and to unravel in which geodynamic context continent formation took place. The RA will work in the newly-built state-of-the-art Cardiff Earth Laboratory for Trace Element and Isotope Chemistry (CELTIC) for all analytical work. In addition, the RA will join a field campaign to the Kaapvaal craton (South Africa) to collect samples. The RA will benefit from being part of the School's Solid Earth Research group and the CELTIC team and their cutting edge expertise in deep Earth processes and all types of geochemistry. Experience with analytical isotope geochemistry is crucial, but the RA is not expected to have prior experience of working on Archean rocks.
In addition to these duties, the RA will be expected to produce work of publishable quality for appropriate high quality peer reviewed journals, present papers at national and international meetings and contribute to the development of collaborative research grants. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant subject.
This position is full time (35 hours per week) and a fixed-term appointment for 3 years. Applicant should be able to start on the 1st April 2018 at the latest.
Salary: £32,548 - £38,883 per annum (Grade 6).
