Aveva - Supporting apprentices with mentors
AVEVA Solutions Ltd as a world class provider of engineering design software and enterprise solutions for the Oil &Gas, Power and Marine Industries are proud of their commitments to supporting women in technical roles. This has been demonstrated through their historical gender split which is line with UK tech company benchmarks as well as ensuring that 50% of their annual Graduate intake are women.
With the introduction of the highly successful AVEVA Apprentice Programme in 2015, resulting in AVEVA being awarded Best Large Company Newcomer at the Eastern Regional Finals of the National Apprentice Awards, there is the opportunity to further demonstrate the support we offer.
What we did.
We ensure that all Apprentices are assigned an appropriate mentor and having recently set up our Women In Engineering network we are no better placed to offer Apprentices career mentors as well as technical mentors. One of our first female apprentices has been with us for just under two years and has already had two promotions and a 36% pay increase.
Our work with a local University gives us the opportunity to support Apprentices right up to degree level. It is so important that young apprentices coming into their first role are supported and can see the opportunities for growth. The Apprenticeship Programme is now a key part of our entry level talent strategy. Our Apprentices can see what is possible in terms of growth and we challenge and support them through offering a variety of project opportunities.
What we learned.
Our existing staff are excited by the buzz created with having a pool of young talent which they can support and mentor. The Graduates have formed a good bond with the Apprentices and recognise the value, it’s great to see them all involved in social and sports events and sharing projects and experiences.
