Practical advice for employers (SME to corporate), training providers and apprenticeship training associations. Helping you to get more women into science, technology, engineering, construction and manufacturing through an apprenticeship.
The Apprenticeship Levy has come into force in April 2017, and with this employers are given the opportunity to use the funds to train all ages of their workforce for the first time:
- Employees aged 24 and over will attract 90% funding for apprenticeship training, with no upper age limit and with eligibility for graduates.
- SMEs with less than 50 employees will get full funding for training 16-18 year olds.
- Apprentices can be taken at lower qualification levels, if they are materially different from an employee's current qualification.
Whilst it is reassuring to see that the number of women taking key STEM apprenticeships has increased over the past four years, the proportion of female apprenticeships remains small.
