WISE Ten Steps: Sponsor female talent to the same extent as male talent

In 2019, Network Rail commissioned WISE to undertake a research project that looked at its internal promotions process. WISE analysed quantitative and qualitative data in a bid to understand where there might be room for improvement around the promotion of women to senior levels.

WISE then provided Network Rail with practical steps to help open out secondment opportunities, recognise
transferable skills, and provide returners with information on promotion opportunities among other things. This case study provides information on how WISE investigated promotions opportunities for women at Network Rail combined with our recommendations.

These recommendations will be of use to other organisations wanting to improve gender balance among their senior leaders
