Her Royal Highness, the Princess Royal, the Royal Patron of WISE (Women into Science, Engineering and Construction) presented the 8th Annual WISE Awards highlighting exceptional talent in the UK’s female engineers in a ceremony hosted by Kate Bellingham and sponsored by The Royal Academy of Engineering, on Thursday 12th November
HRH Princess Anne presented Rebecca Robinson with the prestigious WISE Excellence Award and £1,000 prize for her work at Manchester University on a medical device investigating brain activity and for her role as a Student Ambassador.


The London 2012 team won The WISE Partnership Award for embedding the promotion of careers in science, engineering or construction for women in their local region. The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) ConstructionSkills and the London Development Agency (LDA) are working together on this project to promote construction related employment opportunities for women through the London 2012 ‘Women into Construction” project.

Zoe Burton was the winner of The Ford WISE prize for her successes studying Aerodynamics at Durham University and her achievement in gaining an undergraduate placement on the Honda F1 racing team. The £1,000 prize is sponsored by Ford, and run in collaboration with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to recognise and reward exceptional women who are about to graduate into the workforce.

The evening also rewarded the younger generation through the Primary Engineer Leader awards which encourage females under 19 to understand what inspires successful leaders to go into science and engineering careers. Winners were. Five year old Zoe Smith from Oaklands Primary School, Aysha Waheed from Sydenham High School, and Supriya Gopinath from Newstead Wood School for Girls.
