The deadline has now past for this event.
On the 15-19 February 2010, WISE and The Royal Navy will give 16 lucky female students the chance to spend a week on a Navy ship! The girls will be selected from schools across Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight.
Living on board the retired warship HMS Bristol, which is docked at Portsmouth, the girls will get to do loads of hands-on activities, learn how the ship works, and spend time with female naval engineers who will show them what life and work in the Navy is like.
Amongst other things the girls will
- make new friends
- try out a flight simulator
- try on parachutes and learn how they work
- learn about damage control
- discover heliocopters and Sea Kings in the Air Hangar
- saw a ship in dry dock
- get their hands dirty trying mechanical engineering and marine engineering
- give presentations about their week
- get dressed up for a formal final night dinner with important Royal Navy personnel!
