Royal Navy Work Experience

In July 2008, the Royal Navy and WISE teamed up together to host a residential work experience week for female students in Years 10 and 11, living in the Hampshire region.

 After sifting through many applications, 16 lucky young female students were chosen by the WISE team, and went to stay on board the retired warship, HMS Bristol, for a week in July.

  Working alongside female engineers and mentors, the students: moved a helicopter; got their hands dirty; wowed at the size of the ship in the dry dock; mended valves; moved a heat exchanger; climbed on and inside military aircraft; presented their photographs of the week and gave speeches at a formal final night dinner with Royal Navy bigwigs!

It took a while to get used to the 6am starts…

But by Friday… HMS Bristol was renamed “home” and all students demanded a soon-to-be-scheduled reunion!
